Separated by streets, ideas, and lifetimes, we meet through dropped calls that ring off walls and reach for a clear connection. Why do we hold onto that fading line that leaves us asking, Are You Still There?
Are You Still There? explores the multitude of connections. Audiences will enter a performance space of mobile set pieces and shifting perspectives, with corded phones of past decades circling overhead, lifting dancers off the ground, and hanging unanswered. Connections that are intimate, far away, or held only in the heart; this dance performance will explore the many barriers that strain or strengthen that connection. In this theatrical new work, dancers move thorough barriers that are both visible and invisible, holding on to a fading line that ties them together.
This world premiere performance features a seasoned cast of Attack Theatre company dancers: Kaitlin Dann, Dane Toney, and Ashley Williams. Joining the company for this production are guest dancers James Johnson and Brittanie Brown. James and Brittanie are both graduates of The Juilliard School. James is a past company member of Nai Ni Chen Dance Company, and Brittanie is a former dancer with Kyle Abraham AIM and most recently a company member of GöteborgsOperan in Sweden.
Are You Still There? will also feature live musical accompaniment with original music and vocals by Hutch of HutchSimonProject, percussion and music direction by longtime collaborator Ian Green, saxophone by newcomer Derek Bendel, with guitar by a staple of the Pittsburgh music scene, Carl Black.
