Education

Connecting with Students

Our arts education programs connect with students through the power of creative play. Rooted in reflection, investigation, and imagination, these programs emphasize creative learning and wellness for participants of all ages. At the core of each program, dance and movement support kinesthetic strategies to develop critical thinking, encourage collaboration, strengthen communication, and nurture creativity.

Assembly Programs

Attack Theatre’s assembly programs serve as an engaging and fun introduction to contemporary dance for students, while reinforcing and demonstrating themes across the curriculum. Performed by professional company dancers, these dynamic performances offer young audiences a glimpse into the making of dance. All performances are carefully tailored for age appropriateness and are always followed by a post-show question and answer session.

The Traveling Salesman

This witty dance performance tells the story of a traveling salesman, his sample case of curiosities, and the enormous potential of the little things in life.

Leap into Action

This dynamic, interactive performance inspires students to literally Leap into Action.

Science Moves

Simple machines come to life in this interactive dance performance by Attack Theatre.

School Residency Programs

Attack Theatre residencies use a reflective and investigative approach to kinesthetic learning that stimulates students’ creativity and enhances curricular concepts and connections. Throughout the residency, movement based lessons are crafted to support student learning using kinesthetic and intellectual problem solving activities.

Imagination Station

Attack Theatre’s Imagination Station is a unique project-based learning experience for students and teachers across the learning community. This 10-day residency offers an inclusive, physical and fun way for students to express themselves, their thoughts, and their creativity. Themes and topics from history, social studies, literature, and science come to life through movement and dance.

E-Motion

Attack Theatre presents a new virtual residency program designed to connect with students remotely. Through a hybrid of pre-recorded lesson plans and live virtual sessions, students engage with a variety of creative movement concepts to energize learning, promote physical activity, and encourage connection.

Connecting with Teachers

Attack Theatre's arts education programs are rooted in experiential teaching methods, infusing the creative process, kinesthetic learning, experimentation, and imagination into all aspects of the lessons. Attack Theatre leverages the power of dance and movement to enhance creativity and participation in the 21st  century learning environment.

Educator Programs

Professional Development

Attack Theatre workshops provide educators of all disciplines a unique opportunity to explore kinesthetic learning strategies and incorporate them into their teaching practice. These content-rich workshops led by experienced teaching artists demonstrate how educators can bring movement into the classroom and connect it to the curriculum.

Integrating arts into the curriculum

Integrating movement into the curriculum stimulates students’ creativity and promotes the development of social and emotional learning. Movement-based lessons offer an engaging tool for: enhancing problem solving and critical analysis skills, building interdisciplinary connections, developing communication and cooperation skills, exploring abstract thinking, developing self-confidence, promoting healthy living, and exploring creativity.

Behind the mission

Attack Theatre values the powerful relationship between the classroom teacher and the teaching artist. Each year, the company works with teachers of a wide-range of subjects, engaging them in professional development workshops to integrate the arts into the classroom. These workshops further enhance the effectiveness of arts education residencies and the long-lasting impact of classroom teachers armed with a renewed awareness and skills in the arts. It is the company's hope that students begin to see their teachers as active learners and participants in the creative process, and that teachers experience the transformational power of the arts alongside their students.

Educator Testimonials

The students loved watching the performers. They were especially impressed with they way the dancers could use concepts such as momentum, partnership, etc. (all things we use in a school setting) to create a dance. This performance connected to our school’s goals of fostering the arts within our academic programs.
— Teacher, South Fayette Intermediate School
You’ve given me beautiful movement techniques that support concepts I was struggling to convey. Topics, otherwise dry and boring, can now be exciting, meaningful learning opportunities.
— Teacher, Steel Valley School District

The experience was highly beneficial to our school community. Meaningful activities helped students make connections - they had one ‘ah-ha!’ experience after another. Learning through movement was exciting and stimulating. The artists taught so effectively that students wanted to learn more! Very powerful and very positive.
— Teacher, Allegheny Valley School District
