Pittsburgh dance company Attack Theatre celebrates 30 years this season
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Attack Theatre, one of Pittsburgh’s smaller dance and performing companies, is celebrating 30 years.
The company began its new season on Oct. 4. That first show, “Some Assembly Required,” blends dance and visual art together in live performance. The work, commissioned by the Carnegie Museum of Art in 1996, is being brought back to mark the anniversary. Performances run through Oct. 17.
With a budget of just over $1 million, Attack Theatre typically sells out its performance space in Lawrenceville and performs in various locations around the community. It regularly partners with other arts groups, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Pittsburgh Opera, sending dancers to Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center.
Attack Theatre regularly programs unorthodox performances that mix live music and dance in unique venues.
“We’ve danced in warehouses and museums, on bridges and in stairwells, in Pittsburgh and across the globe,” said co-founder and co-artistic director Michele de la Reza — who is married to co-founder and director Peter Kope — in a statement.
“We’ve collaborated with symphonies, sculptors and schoolchildren. And through it all, one thing that’s remained constant is our connection with incredible audiences, artists, and participants.”
Tickets generally start at $46. For more details on the 2025-26 season, go to attacktheatre.com:
