Provident Charter School
Attack Theatre is partnering with Provident Charter School to further develop a movement-based residency for students with dyslexia in grades 2-6. This residency utilizes dance, movement, and kinesthetic learning strategies to support the academic curriculum, while fostering a learning environment that develops the social and emotional well-being of the whole child.
Using dance vocabulary and the process of composing dance, this program offers a new arts language with which students can communicate, learn, and engage with each other. Students build interdisciplinary connections and develop stronger pattern recognition across academic subjects. One example includes the creation of short movement phrases informed by stories and artwork in order to express different literary devices and parts of speech (e.g., alliteration, onomatopoeia, adverbs, and adjectives). Students explore strategies for working individually and cooperatively, develop spatial awareness, and express emotions through movement.
This program is provided under a contract with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
